“Hi, this is <lj user=livredor>, otherwise known as Rachel.
I saw that <lj user=chocoholic> had posted a UK number for 'phone posts, so I thought I'd have a go, mainly on the same thinking as I posted a bunch of pictures of me, 'cos there are quite a few people reading this by now who don't know what my voice sounds like, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to try a 'phone post. It's sort of a cliché people talk about liking the sound of their own voice - that's definitely true for me, because I talk far too much and always ramble on and all my posts are way too long and not at all concise, but I also like literally the sound of my voice, which is a very vain thing to say, but I think it's one of my good features. One of the most flattering things that anyone ever said to me was Darcy's old choirmaster who said I ought to sing because I have a nice speaking voice. Of course, I can't sing at all - I can't hold a tune but I was very pleased about that. I also don't have any content at all, so this is going to sound completely ridiculous, but hey, let's give this a go and see what it sounds like. Having said I like my voice, I probably don't like it as much recorded - it'll make me cringe when I actually hear this; but never mind - this is just a sample of how I talk and if it seems popular, then maybe I'll try making audio posts with some actual content. All right then - bye-bye!”

Addendum 4.9.04: The phone number in question is 0870 340 1388, if you're interested :-)

That's a very good transcription! I usually transcribe in a text editor first and and then enter the finished version into the system, because of this whole not being able to go back and edit problem. But no, this is great, though in my head it was punctuated a bit differently, which is a very minor problem.

I've not tried to transcribe one before, so I didn't know this.

Awwww, thank you! I'm most flattered! *smooch* I know I said I like my voice, but that's not at all the same thing as other people liking it!

Yay! Glad you like. But you could probably have a fair guess what my voice sounds like since you know lots of Persegirls and I sound much like the rest of them.

You know, I very nearly answered this with a link to the phonepost FAQ, but realized in time that this is rho asking... pne seems to have tracked it down to dan_lane's post which explains a bit. VoIP was involved, as far as I can gather.

(And I can't ever resist doing matching sheep icons when I'm replying to your comments.)

Ah, interesting. Thanks. I think that if I ever do decide to make a phonepost, I'll probably just call one of the official numbers. I'm hopelessly suspicious about calling a number like that when I know nothing about the person providing it. And interestingly enough, it would actually be cheaper for me to ring the US during weekday day time than to call the 0870 number (BT says 7.51/3.75/1.50p per minute for daytime/evening/weekend, compared to 5p per minute that I pay for calls to the US.)

(And I will resist the temptation to make bad sheep-related puns, because they're baaaaad. Ooops.)

Hee! I love how my accent gets me automatic credit with lots of foreigners. Americans especially, Americans are all over my accent. (Not that I'm calling you American, obviously.)
